James A. Wells, Jr. (Jim) of Goldthwaite, TX passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at the age of 70. Jim was born in San Saba, Texas on December 3, 1945, to James A Wells, Sr. and Queen Huffstetler Wells.
Jim survived childhood polio to become the quarterback for Bronte High School, graduating in 1964. He then went on to play college ball for two years. He was also very active in rodeo during high school and college. Jim married Sheila Angerstein on June 2, 1967. They were married for 49 years.
He received his BS from Tarleton State University in January 1969 and many years later returned to Tarleton for his Master of Science Teaching degree which he received in 1992.
He was a County Extension Agent, an Ag Teacher, but for most of his life he was an avid farmer and rancher. He loved being a rancher. He loved being outdoors. When his children were younger, he enjoyed participating and helping them with stock shows and horseback riding.
He was an active member of Priddy Baptist Church where he led the singing most Sundays. And most Saturdays you could find him puttering around the church parking lot with a sprayer of Roundup. Jim and Sheila retired to Goldthwaite in 2007 where he continued to raise sheep and goats and cattle and to live the quiet country life he always loved.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Queen (Quincy) Wells of Goldthwaite, Texas, his brother Bob Wells and his brother-in-law Don Baber.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sheila Wells, his son, Cody Wells and wife Ellen, of Stephenville, Texas; his daughter Christy Wells of Fort Worth, Texas; and his daughter April Wetzig and husband Lindsey of Keller, Texas; his sister, Pat Garrett of Walnut Springs, Texas; sister-in-law, Kathy Wells of Miles, Texas. Jim had seven grandchildren, and he considered them his treasures. Corey Wells, Hunter Wells, Gage Wells, Callie Wells, AJ Wetzig, Jack Wetzig and Ben Wetzig. and nieces and nephews and many other family and friends; and his faithful border collie, Abe.
Grandpa loved his grandkids so much. He enjoyed taking them fishing and feeding the animals, and going to see them participate in their numerous extracurricular activities. He will be very missed by all who loved him.
Visitation will be held at Stacy-Wilkins Funeral Home in Goldthwaite, Texas on Tuesday, July 26 from 5-7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, July 27 at 10 a.m. Burial will be at the San Saba Cemetery.
