Stephenville mourns loss of community leader, long-time resident Terry Jenkins

STEPHENVILLE (July 2016) – This week residents of Stephenville were saddened by news of the loss of one of their own. Long-time resident Terry Jenkins, 57, who passed away Saturday, July 23.

Jenkins was on his 2012 Triumph 1050 Sport Bike on FM 51 near County Road 1012 in Somervell County Saturday when the bike hit some gravel while going around a curve and went off the roadway. First responders were dispatched to the scene at approximately 11:10 a.m.

According to Texas DPS Sr. PIO Trooper Dub Gillum, the bike left the roadway and hit a tree. Jenkins was in full riding gear, including a helmet that only sustained minor scratches. Justice of the Peace Scott May of Glen Rose pronounced the death.

Jenkins was the husband of Amy Jenkins and father of four. He was a dedicated employee of Emerson Industrial (formerly known as Appleton/EGS Electric) for 32 years, and has served as Plant Manager in Stephenville for the last decade.

A cancer survivor and long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Stephenville, Jenkins served as a deacon for the past 8 years. He also served as a United Way Board Member and was involved in a number of other community organizations and events.

His family say they will miss him greatly. The Flash’s thoughts and prayers are with all his family and friends during this difficult time.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, at Lacy Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 28, at the First Baptist Church in Stephenville.
