GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 10:00 A.M. Thursday, July 28, 2016, at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Comanche County.

VISITATION: Family will receive friends at Comanche Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 27, from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.

Thomas Joseph “Joey” Byrd, age 40, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2016, in Abilene, Texas.

He was born on July 15, 1976, in Brownwood, Texas, to Ricky and Bonnie Ann (Land) Byrd. Thomas was a self employed painter and tile setter and he was an avid fisherman. Joey was a Christian man and was a member of the First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his father, Ricky Byrd and wife Stephanie of Comanche; mother, Bonnie Ann Newman and husband Mike of Brownwood; brother, Jackie Lee Byrd of Comanche; grandmother, Carmaleta Byrd of Comanche; step-brothers, Kyle Newman and wife Mary of Austin and Craig Newman and wife Tracy of Brownwood; step-sisters, Tracey Hatley of Comanche and Haley Love and son Hunter of Comanche; aunts, Cindy Land and husband Thomas of Comanche and Sherry Byrd and daughter Lauren of Hot Springs, Arkansas; uncle, Albert Land and wife Debra of Granbury; aunts, Linda Whorton and husband Warren of Rockdale and Sue Mahanay of Burleson; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and special friends Charlie Smith and wife Ramey, Felicia Swindle Crouch and husband Kent, and David Deeds. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jack Byrd, Carlton Land, and Bonnie and H. L. Pyburn.
