STEPHENVILLE (August 15, 2016) — Reigning Lone Star Conference champion Tarleton State is picked to finish second to conference tournament champ Angelo State in the LSC preseason poll, released by league officials Monday.
Tarleton is fresh off a school record 27 wins and won its first LSC regular season title in 2015, a year after capturing its first LSC tournament crown in 2014. ASU defeated the TexAnns in the fifth set of the 2015 LSC tournament final, earning the right to host the South Central Championship.
ASU was No. 1 on 13 of 29 ballots turned in by head coaches, sports information personnel and various media, and received 301 total polling points. Tarleton received 12 first-place votes 291 points. The remaining four first-place votes went to West Texas A&M, but the Lady Buffs still came in fourth behind No. 3 Texas Woman’s.
Tarleton began fall practices Monday and opens its season at the Kathleen Brasfield Invitational at Angelo State Sept. 2-3.
