(August 27, 2016) — Tom VanKranenburg passed for two touchdowns and Bailey Fenn rushed for two scores as Lingleville knocked off Evant 41-28 to open each team’s season Friday.
Chase Carlson led the Cardinals with 144 rushing yards and also scored on a 56-yard reception from VanKranenburg, whose other scoring strike was to Felipe Flores for 19 yards.
Fenn rushed for 121 yards and added 48 as a receiver while Flores chalked up 62 yards rushing on only five carries. Doug Haworth had a 22-yard TD pass for the Cardinals.
“It was a muggy night and both teams were cramping and fighting injuries,” said second-year Lingleville head coach Troy Sparks. “The Cardinals never quit and left it all on the field. I’m proud of the boys and how they handled themselves.”
Lingleville hosts perennial power Borden County next Friday.
