FLASH STAFF REPORT

HICO (August 28, 2016) – A reported explosion left a house at the intersection of US 281 and FM 1744 (towards Carlton) in rubble overnight.

Hico Volunteer Fire, Hamilton County Volunteer Fire and Carlton Volunteer Fire Departments were all dispatched to a report of an explosion just after 11 p.m. Saturday night. The first units on scene reported the house totally engulfed in flames.

“The fire was initially started by some kind of explosion,” said Brandon Keller of the Hico VFD. “We’re unsure of what caused the explosion, but thankfully no one was in the home at the time and no one was hurt.”

Hico Marshals also report no one was in the house at the time of the fire and no immediate reports of major injuries, but officials did say they believed the home to be a total loss. Keller said the State Fire Marshal has already been contacted and will investigate the incident.

The Flash will have more updates after speaking with authorities.
