Dr. Monty Stephen Banks, 60, of Stephenville, husband, father, and pillar of the community, passed away on Friday, September 16, 2016 in Dallas.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 24th at the First United Methodist Church of Stephenville with Reverend Howard Martin officiating. Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, at Stephenville Funeral Home.
Monty was born on February 1, 1956 in Freeport, Texas to the late Morris and Norma Montgomery Banks. Monty graduated from Brazosport High School in 1974. He attended the University of Houston where he earned his Doctor of Optometry. He married Connie Sorrells, on July 6, 1985, in Stephenville. Together they raised children, Sarah, Stephen, and Andrew in Stephenville. Monty served our community as an optometrist for over 32 years, as owner of Texas State Optical. He was active in the Stephenville Optimist Club, Tarleton’s Ultra Club Big Band, Boy Scouts, and the Polar Bears of Texas. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Monty supported local organizations in countless ways.
Monty was patient, gentle, and kind, and though a man of few words he was regularly quick witted.
Monty is survived by his wife, Connie; children, Sarah and husband Justin Clements, Stephen and wife Ashley Banks, and Andrew and wife Courtney Banks; sister, Morrissia Banks; and his mother-in-law Patsy Sorrells
The Banks family wishes expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to the Stephenville Education Foundation, American Heart Association, or Sight for Kids.
