Morgan Mill resident killed at work

ERATH COUNTY (October 6, 2016) – Friends and family of an area man are mourning his death and remembering a man the called “a hoot.”

Morgan Mill resident Ray Barnes, 51, was killed in a work-related accident Wednesday.

The accident occurred in the city of Little Elm in Denton County where Barnes was part of a road crew working on a striping job along U.S. Highway 380.  

Witnesses reported a car driven by a female struck Barnes. His body was reportedly thrown a considerable distance and sustained extensive injuries.

An individual working inside a nearby business reportedly performed CPR until emergency responders arrived on the scene.

Barnes was married to Lana Shelton Barnes. She said they met in 1983, when she was 15 years old and she was 17.

“He was the love of my life,” Lana said. “He was my soulmate.”  

Barnes grew up in Gorman and moved to Erath County as a teenager. His mother, Frances Barnes, resides in De Leon.  Barnes is also survived by a son, Dwayne Green: daughter, Brittany Rudel Featherstone; and six grandchildren.
