Tarleton men third, women fourth in LSC Cross Country

COMMERCE – The Tarleton men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the Lone Star Conference Championship on Saturday with the Texans placing third and the TexAnns finishing in fourth.

The Texans and TexAnns each had 101 points in the meet. West Texas A&M won the men’s championship with 21 points and Midwestern State won the women’s title with 51 points.

For the Texans, Peyton Heinig had the top finish on the team by coming in eighth place and running the 8,000-meter course in a time of 26:09.5. Jarred Elizondo place 19th (26:33.8) and Joshua Perez ran a 26:40.3 to finish in 20th. Johen DeLeon came in 22nd place in a time of 26:48.1 and Michael Simcho‘s time of 27:08.2 positioned him in 32ndQuenten Lasseter, one of five Texans competing in the meet, came in 43rd place in a time of 27:34.5 and Andrew Clark, the lone senior running for Tarleton, finished in 27:54.5 for 49th place. There were 74 runners in all competing in the men’s race.

The TexAnns were led once again by Katelin Huckabee, who ran the 6,000-meter course in 22:44.1 to come in fifth place. Huckabee was the top finisher in all five meets this season for the TexAnns.Esmeralda Fuentes cracked the top 10 by coming in ninth place in a time of 23:11.7. Gretzel Jimenezfinished in in 26th (24:08.4), while Andelynn Carlton (24:23.6) placed 30th and Emily Ayers (24:23.8) came in 31st. Gabrielle Howes placed 52nd in a time of 25:52.4 and Molly Cross had a time of 26:12.0 for 54th place. The TexAnns also ran five freshmen in the meet with Huckabee being the only senior.

Tarleton will race in the South Central Regional Championship in Denver, Colorado on November 5.
