DUBLIN (October 31, 2016) — Dublin won for the fifth time in six matches last Friday, earning the No. 3 seed from 6-3A in straight sets in a district tie-breaking match with Eastland at Bangs High School.
The dominant 26-24, 25-18, 25-15 victory means the Lady Lions avoid a first-round matchup with the 5-3A champion and instead face second-place Clyde at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Brownwood High School.
“I thought the girls played one of their best matches if not their best match of the year,” said Dublin head coach Ryan Lewis, whose club reached the playoffs for the fifth consecutive year. “We’re definitely playing at the highest level we have all year, and it’s the right time to be doing that. We have to continue that in playoffs.”
Dublin won bi-district championships each of the last two seasons and an area title in 2014. The Lady Lions have never advanced past the regional quarterfinals. The winner of Tuesday’s Region I-3A bi-district playoff faces Boyd or Tolar in the area round laster this week.
