EASTLAND (November 3, 2016) — Something had to give in a nip and tuck battle the whole way between Abilene Wylie and Stephenville.

Something did in each set. And it went Wylie’s way each time.

Wylie knocked Stephenville from the Region I-4A playoffs in a 25-23, 25-22, 25-23 thriller at Eastland High School Thursday evening, claiming an area title and moving on to face Springtown or Graham in the regional quarterfinals.

Wylie built big leads then held off Stephenville rallies in the first and third sets, but the second was enthralling the entire way with nine ties and three lead changes.

Stephenville was led in its sixth straight area-round playoff appearance by sophomore Jayci Morton nine kills, 17 digs and two blocks.

Emily Brandon had seven kills and Nicona Stilwell six, each playing in their last match as Honeybees. Taylor Garber, also a senior, went out with a bang with 17 assists and 12 digs for a double-double.

Junior libero Hailey Martin led the defense with 22 digs. Sophomore setter Hannah Huckabee had 10 digs and eight assists.
