STEPHENVILLE (November 15, 2016) – Tarleton head coach Bryan Conger announced the signings of three high school pitchers during the national early signing period – Sid Payan, Trey Penny, and Jaxon Terrell.

“This early signing class is the result of the continued relentless passion that Coach (Ben) Buck brings to our program,” said Conger. “These three young men are first-class individuals, which is a wonderful reflection of their parents and the mentors they have had in their pursuit of playing college baseball. They are also extremely talented and all three have the ability to make an immediate impact next year.”

Here’s a look at the newest Texan Baseball players:

Sid Payan | RHP/IF | El Paso, Texas | Franklin HS

Payan comes to Tarleton after a three-year varsity career at Franklin High School under head coach Ruben Munoz.

He is a two-time all-district selection heading into his senior year and has twice been named an academic all-district selection. He also spent last summer playing select baseball for the Albuquerque Baseball Academy.

“Sid is a young man that we are very excited about joining our program,” said Conger. “He played his travel ball with Ryan Brewer and the ABA, as well as with Coach (Ruben) Munoz at Franklin High School in El Paso. Sid is a versatile player who brings middle infield skills, as well as the ability to pitch.

“On the mound, he has already been clocked at 90 mph this fall and has more in the tank as he continues to mature and get stronger,” he continued. “In the field, Sid is a very gritty player. He does many things that coaches look for and he plays the game the right way.”

Trey Penny | RHP | Decatur, Texas | Decatur HS

Penny is one of two teammates from Decatur High School to commit to Tarleton this fall. He will join the Texans after a four-year varsity career for head coach Brian Tickell.

In addition to his on-field work with the Eagles, Penny has spent four years playing travel ball with the Arlington A’s where he was nominated to compete at Perfect Game.

“Trey is another young man that we are really looking forward to getting on campus,” said Conger. “Trey has played his travel ball with the Arlington A’s and high school ball with Coach Tickell at Decatur. He already possesses the ability to run his fastball up there in the 90-91 mph range and we believe he is going to have a bright future with the Texans.”

Jaxon Terrell | RHP | Decatur, Texas | Decatur HS

Terrell joins his high school teammate, Penny, as the newest member of the Tarleton baseball team after a three-year varsity career at Decatur High School.

He led the Eagles to a District, Bi-District, and Area championship last season with an overall record of 22-10-1. He was a first-team 8-4A all-district pitcher last spring and had a season-high nine strikeouts in a one-hitter. He also spent three years playing travel ball for the Cooperstown Cobras.

“Jaxon is the third young man to join us and will bring the ability to immediately compete for innings,” said Conger. “We felt in the evaluation process that Jaxon had one of the best breaking balls at any level that we saw. He is a competitive young man who has honed his skills with Shawn Morgan and the Cooperstown Cobras and Coach Tickell at Decatur.”
