STEPHENVILLE (November 29, 2016) – Twisted Titans RC (Riding Club) is a group of burly bikers with big hearts. The Erath County organization was founded about a year ago with the mission of lending a helping hand to locals whenever there is a need, according Adam Dudley, club officer.
With Christmas quickly approaching, the club made calls to area organizations to see how they could best serve those in need. Dudley said those calls ended with the Foster’s Home for Children, where winter coats are the greatest need as cooler weather descends on the region.
“They said they are more in need of coats than toys,” Dudley said.
To help outfit the children, about 50 kids ranging in age from infant to 18 years old, in warm weather gear, the riding club is hosting Coats for Kids for the Foster’s Home. A community collection event will be held 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. Saturday at the large pavilion at Stephenville City Park.
“We will be serving free hamburgers and hot dogs with all the fixings to everyone who donates a new coat,” Dudley said.
Lacy Barton, vice president of development for the Foster’s Home, said the nonprofit organization is home to children of various ages with a good number of them in fifth through eighth grades.
“We welcome coat donation of any size,” she said. “Chances are whatever size we receive, we can use them since the residents’ sizes vary greatly.”
Dudley said Twisted Titans will also collect gloves, scarves, hats and socks to help keep children warm this winter. Cash and gift cards be given and the club will use the monetary donations to purchase additional coats.
Supporters who are unable to attend Saturday’s event are encouraged to donate new coats at Walmart, Texas Car Title & Payday or Maurice’s in Stephenville.
Dudley said donations to Big Brother Big Sisters are also being accepted at Saturday’s event.
Motorcycle enthusiasts to consider joining the club and its effort to support the local community invited to mingle with club members at the Coats for Kids event or inquire by sending a private message to the Titans RC Facebook page.
Dudley said other projects to serve the community have included collecting Christmas toys for kids, participating in a recent Schreiber Foods Fun Run and a coat drive for those in need in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.
“We really enjoy helping out,” Dudley said. “Anyone in need of assistance can message us on Facebook anytime.”
