Huckabay takes third in Poolville after winning tourney in Perrin

STEPHENVILLE (December 12, 2016) — Huckabay won three straight games including knowing off a state-ranked foe to secure third place in the Mesquite Pit Classic in Poolville last weekend.

It was the second tournament in as many weekend for the Lady Indians, who won the championship in Perrin the weekend prior.

Huckabay knocked off 2A No. 17 Forsan in the third-place game in Poolville Saturday, 51-42. They reached the third place game by beating Bellevue, 67-34, and Fort Worth South Hills, 46-18. The only loss suffered by the Lady Indians was in the tournament opener to 2A No. 12 Windthorst, 65-43. It was actually a 16-point game before Windthorst banked in two 3-pointers in the final 30 seconds.

Kailin Dowell and Emmy Rodriguez were named to the all-tournament team, helping Huckabay improve to 12-2 on the season. The Lady Indians open district play Tuesday at Gorman.

Huckabay dominated Perrin’s tourney, beating Forestburg, 59-29, and Slidell, 46-36, before slamming Wichita Falls Notre Dame, 65-16, in the championship.
