STEPHENVILLE (December 14, 2016) — Romond Jenkins was dominant from the start and didn’t have to finish.
The Tarleton State big man set career highs in points with 24, rebounds with 17 and steals with six before despite playing sparingly in the second half and just 26 minutes total in a 106-54 rout of Southwestern Adventist Tuesday night at Wisdom Gym.
The competition will be much more stiff when the Texans travel to Las Vegas this weekend. They take on Simon Fraser, a Division II member from Canada, on Sunday, and currently undefeated No. 12 Western Washington on Monday in the South Point Casino Holiday Hoops Classic.
Jenkins was 11-13 from the floor before checking out for the last time with more than five minutes remaining. Tarleton was on top 90-49 at the time, the outcome long since determined.
It was the sixth straight win for Tarleton (9-1), which shot 48 percent, making 40 of a whopping 83 field goal attempts thanks to a 50-27 rebounding advantage and 21 steals. Southwestern Adventist (0-14) was 39 percent but did knock down 44 percent from the arc, hitting 11 of 25.
Jenkins was aided inside by Anthony Davis with 18 points and nine boards and outside by Ridell Camidge with 17 and six assists. Josh Hawley came off the bench to score 12, while point guard Deshawn Riddick dealt nine assists.
JaCoby Hardin had a highlight-filled night for Southwestern Adventist, scoring 28 points. He was joined in double figures by Travis Gagau with 15.
