(December 28, 2016) — Even following an afternoon full of offensive struggles, Stephenville was gifted one last chance against Sanger on opening day of the Whataburger Tournament at Saginaw High School Wednesday.

Sanger committed a personal foul on a 3-point shooter and also received a technical foul while leading No. 10 Stephenville, 33-29, with 23.5 seconds remaining in overtime. But the Honeybees made just two of the ensuing five free throws and turned the ball over with 11.1 seconds remaining, allowing Sanger to hold on, 37-31.

It was the second overtime loss in three contests for Stephenville, which faces Christoval at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, also at Saginaw. Christoval lost to Kennedale, 46-36, in its first-round contest, to join Stephenville in the consolation bracket of the Blue Division of the 59th annual event.

Ebony Green netted 14 points and Payton Wall added nine for the Bees. Other Stephenville scorers included Jordan Carter three, Madison Carter two, Hailey Martin two and Jayci Morton one.
