Sherry Lane Boardman (Kilgore)

(July 18, 1941 – January 5, 2017)

The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, January 8, at the Stephenville Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 9, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the Stephenville Funeral Home with burial to follow in the West End Cemetery.
STEPHENVILLE — A 1989 Summa cum Laude graduate of Tarleton State University, she also attended Texas Wesleyan University. Boardman taught English, Sociology, and Debate at Stephenville High School and English and Sociology at Erath Excels! Academy. She also taught at Beaumont’s Forest Park/West Brook High School and Port Arthur’s Jefferson High School. She participated in student activities, including UIL as a Debate coach, leading them to the state level conferences. Boardman wrote and taught State approved curricula for various subjects, including the program for at-risk students, SOS (success of Students), and presented at state level conferences. Her teaching excellence was three times recognized in America’s Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, a special honor due to being nominated be her students. Professionally, she was a member of, and officer in Stephenville’s Gamma Zeta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, an organization for women educators.
After leaving teaching, she wrote news and feature articles for Stephenville’s Empire Tribune. She later became a published author with two best-selling novels. Personally, she loved crafts, reading, writing, and once commented she possibly paid for a wing at one of the casinos. She had several business ventures outside her career, including a gift basket service and being a graphics artist.Mrs. Boardman is survived by son, Michael Roy Sheppard, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Lyndie, of Beaumont; grandchildren, Ryan Sheppard, and fiancé, Ashley Bailey, of Beaumont, Cody Sheppard, of Spurger, Corey Tucker, and wife, Miranda Files, and William Tucker; sister, Sandra Jean Chambers, and brother-in-law, Eugene, of Lingleville; nephews, Chet Chambers, and wife Korissa, of Stephenville, and Quenton Chambers, and wife Katie, of Stephenville; and extended family, Jamie Moorehead, and husband, Robbie, and Millie Wise, and husband Rodney. She will also be remembered be numerous students who kept in touch through the years.

She was preceded in death by father, Paul H. Kilgore; step mother, Elizabeth Kilgore; husband, Bill B. Boardman, Ed. D., sister, Brenda Joy Knouse; daughter, Christi Lynn Boardman; and nephew, Jon D. Knouse.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Lung Foundation, American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society or a favorite charity.
