Stephenville – Gladis Fouts, 99, passed away in Stephenville, Texas on January 8, 2017. Lacy Funeral Home arranged for her cremation.

Gladis was born in Erath County on October 31, 1917 to Alfred and Ida Bell Alexander.

She married Henry Fouts, Jr. on June 4, 1949. Henry served in the National Guard during World War II as a colonel. During his term, he received the Bronze Star Medal. After serving in the military, he worked and retired from the post office in Austin, Texas.  Henry preceded Gladis in death on September 30, 2013.

Gladis was a Methodist by faith. Some of her most memorable occupations included becoming manager at the Hemphill Bookstore at The University of Texas at Austin and also operating the publishing company of the law textbooks at the university.

She was a member of the Balconies Country Club in Austin and some of her favorite hobbies included playing bridge and oil painting

Survivors include her sister, Dorothy Shillingburg of Stephenville, Texas; nieces, Patti Wall and husband, Mack of Dublin, Texas, and Rebecca Stephens of Stephenville, Texas; nephews, Mike Shillingburg and wife, Cissy of Stephenville, Texas, and Ben Burns of Goodyear, Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Ida Bell Alexander, her husband, Henry Fouts, six siblings, and her loving dog, Missy.
