Bees, Jackets split two matches each to kick off tourney action

STEPHENVILLE (January 13, 2017) — Stephenville’s soccer teams each split on opening day of tournament action Thursday, the Honeybees in Saginaw and the Yellow Jackets at Midlothian Heritage.

The Honeybees lost their tournament opener to Fort Worth South Hills, 1-0, but bounced back with a 5-0 shutout victory over Saginaw. Freshmen powered the way in the win once again, with Gracie Bales scoring twice, Ciara Johnston once and Claire Choate dealing a pair of assists. Upperclassmen Alexis De Los Santos and Savannah Alford also scored a goal each, while freshman Hayleigh Beam distributed two assists and senior Kalee Wright one.

The Yellow Jackets’ win was over Ferris, 2-1. Brayden Perry scored the first goal off a header from Jorge Gallegos, and returning leading scorer Aaron Veloz netted the second goal on a penalty kick.
