Bees rolling, Jackets playing for consolation title

STEPHENVILLE (January 20, 2017) — Stephenville has its girls team rolling through pool play and its boys bound for the consolation match in the Knights of Columbus Challenge of Champions.

The Honeybees conclude pool play against … at 9 a.m. Saturday, with … to follow. The Yellow Jackets are in the consolation match against Joshua at 10:30 a.m. All matches are at Stephenville Soccer Complex.

The Bees have yet to surrender a goal through two pool matches, dominating Waco Connally, 8-0, and Lorena, 3-0.

Three players earned their brace against Connally with Gracie Bales, Savannah Alford and Railey Reed all scoring twice. Claire Choate and Natalie Elizondo finished the ledger with one goal each. Assists were distributed by Choate, Alford, Hayleigh Beam, Breanna Scroggins, Jimena Espinoza, Madelyn Heupel, Mackinzee Reed and Ciara Johnston.

Beam, Alexis De Los Santos and Brinkley Harlow had goals against Lorena, with assists from De Los Santos, Johnston and Railee Reed.

The Honeybees will be in the semifinals at 1 p.m., with the girls championship and consolation matches concluding the tournament at 2:30 p.m.

The Jackets began their tournament with a 2-1 loss to Saginaw with their only goal coming from Ivan Cabrera. They bounced back with a 4-2 win over Lorena as Tino Rocha and Aaron Veloz each had a brace.
