Sarah Johnavie “Johnnie” Casstevens Porter, 95, died Thursday, February 2, 2017 in Stephenville.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, February 5th at West End Cemetery with Jerry Jones officiating. Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Saturday at Stephenville Funeral Home.

Johnnie was born on May 15, 1921 in Lillian, Johnson County, Texas to the late G. L. and “Crickett” Hudson Casstevens. She attended schools in Cleburne, and Abilene, graduating from Abilene High School in 1940. She moved with her family to Stephenville in 1940, where she attended John Tarleton College. She married Gene R. Porter of Stephenville in Miami, Oklahoma on November 27, 1943. He preceded her in death on November 6, 1990

Johnnie worked with Gene in their family garden supply business, Porter and Son, Seedsmen in Stephenville. She retired in 1994. Johnnie was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church of Stephenville.

Survivors include her children, Dianne Wilson and husband J.B. Wilson of Stephenville, Paul Porter and wife Susan Gurvich of Duncanville, and Alice Porter of Stephenville; grandsons, Joel Wilson and wife Andrea of Haymarket, Virginia, and Brian Wilson and wife Michelle of Midland; great grandchildren, Spencer, Zoe, and Breena Wilson; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Johnnie was also preceded in death by two brothers, W. G. “Bud” Casstevens and C. H. “Casey” Casstevens.

The Porter family would like to thank Solaris Hospice and aide, Kristi, and Oakwood Assisted Living Legacy Court for their excellent care of Johnnie.

The Porter family also wishes expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to the Oxford House Preservation Project, 525 E. Washington, Stephenville, or American Diabetes Assn.
