Irene Lucille Spitz, 84, of Stephenville passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2017 in Stephenville. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 11 at 10:00 am at Faith Lutheran Church, with Pastor Tom Konz officiating.

Irene was born on February 20, 1932 in Port Arthur, Texas to the late Louis and Ida Brinkmann.  She grew up in Beaumont, Texas.  Irene attended Texas Woman’s University, graduating in 1954 and taught elementary school for several years before starting her family.

On August 12, 1955 Irene married Carl Spitz.  Together they lived in Fort Worth before moving to Stephenville in 1972.  He preceded her in death in 2014.

Irene loved animals of all kinds, especially dogs, and was active in the Erath County Humane Society and was president of the Humane Society for several years.  Irene attended Faith Lutheran Church and participated in various groups within the congregation. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and shopping. For the past 3 years Irene was a resident of Oakwood Assisted Living in Stephenville and was a resident council member.

Irene was preceded in death by her son Walter Spitz.  Survivors include daughter Carla Manlapaz and her husband Joseph and granddaughter Isabella of Stephenville, several cousins, and many wonderful friends.
