Tarleton racks up nine all-conference indoor track honors

STEPHENVILLE (February 23, 2017)- On Wednesday afternoon the league announced Tarleton’s track and field teams combined for 9 All-Lone Star Conference awards at this past weekend’s LSC indoor track and field championships.

To earn all-conference status, athletes must finish first, second, or third at the LSC Championships. The winners of each event will be named first team all-conference, second place finishers will be named second team all-conference, and third place finishers will be named third team all-conference.

Rascellis Williams and Katelin Huckabee received first team honors for Tarleton, Williams the sophomore from Mineral Wells jumped a season best 6-10.75 in the high jump. Williams effort also tied a career best in the event. Huckabee took home a gold medal as well, she ran a 20:04.32 5k run.

The Texans had two athletes named to the All-Lone Star Conference second team, Dalton Stidham and Zachary Pratt took home silver medals, and both men broke school records at the meet. Stidham finished with a time of 8.17 in the 60m hurdles while Pratt threw a career best 54-4.75 in the shot put.

Ashley Johnson received third team honors in the 400-meter dash, the senior also helped lead the 4×400-meter relay team (Ashley Johnson, Ariel Ballard, Kara Bickham, and Arianna Stegall) to a third place finish. Johnson finished the 400m dash with a time of 58.27, and the relay team finished with a time of 4:01.88.

Tarleton will compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday Mar. 10 and Saturday Mar. 11 in Birmingham, Alabama. The qualifiers for the championship will be announced on February 28 at 5 p.m. on NCAA.com.
