Food, fellowship and fundraisers add up to a busy weekend in Erath County and The Flash has compiled a list of happenings to ensure readers don’t miss a beat.

FRIDAY

Knights serve up good food for great causes

The Knights of Columbus annual Lenten Fish Frey has dinner covered.

An all-you-can-eat meal of fried fish, hushpuppies, coleslaw, French fries, iced tea and dessert will be served 5-7 p.m. at Newman Hall, located at 1444 West Washington Street in Stephenville.

Meanwhile, the Knights of Columbus ask attendees and other community members to support their 40 Cans for Lent Campaign by contributing a can of food for each of the 40 days of Lent. Donations will be distributed to local food pantries. Contributors are encouraged to take their canned good donation to Newman Hall or deliver them to St. Brendan’s or St. Mary’s Catholic churches.

Meals are $8 for senior citizens and children younger than 12 years old and $10 for everyone else, and a portion of the proceeds from this week’s event will be given to Stephenville Senior Citizen Association.

Take-out meals are available by calling 254-965-5693 and may be picked up on Centennial Street.

Foster’s supporters bid on box lots

The two-day Foster’s Home for Children annual fundraising auction kicks off at 6 p.m. with a box lot auction.

The auction will be held on the nonprofit organization’s campus, located at 1779 N. Graham Street in Stephenville. The auction barn is behind the RV park.

SATURDAY

Get rolling with Cars & Coffee

Cars & Coffee at the City Park will be held from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Birdsong Amphitheatre.

Admission is free for the event, which brings automobile enthusiasts together to admire rides while enjoying coffee and donuts.

TSU ag communicators host run

The Farm to Fork Trail Run and Fun Run, hosted by the Tarleton State University’s student chapter of Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow offers an interactive way to learn more about agriculture. 

Trail run participants will follow a path through Tarleton’s working farm, with an opportunity to participate in agricultural activities along a shorter route.

The fee for participating in the three-mile trail is $30, and the fee for the one-mile fun run is $25.

Registration begins at 7:45 a.m. and the run gets moving at 9.

Participants can download a printable registration form and waiver to present at sign up.

Tee up for Vietnam

Timber Ridge Church will hold its Scramble for a Change at Legends Country Club.

Teams of four can register for $200, and mulligans and rope will be available at the event for $5 each.

All of the proceeds will be sent to Vietnam to assist with providing nutrition, education and recreation to school children that have been “adopted” by the congregation.

Teams can register online Friday or show up at 8 a.m. Saturday for on-site registration.

Foster’s auction continues

Foster’s Home for Children’s fundraising auction offers an array of merchandise up for bid beginning at 9 a.m.

The action will break at 11:30 a.m. for a free barbecue lunch and the live and silent auction will follow. The auction wraps up with bidders having a chance to take home vehicles, boats and more.

Other items up for bid will include furniture such as cabinets, light fixtures, home decor, exercise equipment, tools, lawn and garden equipment, gift certificates, gift baskets, plows, a stock trailer and a variety of other new and used items.

Proceeds from the auction stay at Foster’s Home to provide for the need of the 50 children who live there throughout the year.

Dodgeball tourney raises funds for littles

Lots of laughs and a lot of action gets going at 10 a.m. at the Tarleton State University Rec Center, as 12 teams of community members compete in an adult dodgeball tournament benefitting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erath County. 

The $5 spectator admission fee includes raffle tickets for door prizes.

Zonta Club hosts 20th annual penny auction

Break out your pennies and pocket change and round up some extra cash. The Zonta Club of Stephenville has a lineup of prizes for winning bidders at its 20th annual penny and silent auction.

Doors to the rec hall at Stephenville City Park open at 5 p.m., so make sure to get there early to check out the goods and services donated by area businesses and get your cups and money ready for the game.

The bingo-style action begins at 6 p.m.

Funds raised by Zonta Club go to support three Tarleton scholarships, five Stephenville High School and Erath County scholarships, United Way, American Cancer Society, H.O.P.E, Inc., literacy efforts, Toys for Tots, Erath County Junior Livestock Show, Habitat for Humanity, Fosters Home for Children and other charitable organizations.

Hear men sing

Tarleton State University Department of Fine Arts presents Let All Men Sing, an annual event that gathers men from Stephenville and the surrounding areas to for a choral performance at the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center.

The free concert will be presented at 6:30 p.m.

SUNDAY

Melody Mountain hosts Music 4 Mutts

A benefit concert for Texas Animal Protectors featuring Larry Joe Taylor, Cleto Cordero, Koe Wetzel, Randall King, Kaitlin Butts, Rodney Parker, Charlie Shafter, Zack McGinn, Kensie Coppin, Jon Young, Buck Fuffalo, Billy Hartman, Jack Barksdale, Daryl Dodd and other special guests begins at 2 p.m. at Melody Mountain Ranch.

The event will also offer food throughout the day and a silent auction.

Tickets are only $10 and will be available at the door. Proceeds benefit the TAP veterinary care fund.
