STEPHENVILLE (March 10, 2017) — Parking in Lot P30, near Washington Street just west of Lillian Street, closed Friday to prepare for construction of the Tarleton State University engineering building. All student vehicles must move from P30 this afternoon.

A formal groundbreaking for the $54-million facility, scheduled to open in January 2019, has been set for Friday, March 31. The structure will be the first new academic building since the 2011 opening of the Nursing Building.

The affected parking area is for residential students, who have been notified of the change. Ninety spaces will remain in the lot, and the university plans additional parking to offset the lost spaces, including temporarily using Lot 20—off Harbin Drive on the northwest side of Memorial Stadium. Tarleton parking will continue to move to the periphery of campus, according to the university’s master plan.

Parking plans include:
• Expanding Lot P39 at W. Tarleton and Turner streets by late April, adding about 100 spaces.
• Extending Lot P34 south of the Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex to create 185 new spaces.
• Adding parking at the current Browder Storage property along W. Washington Street at the intersection of N. St. Felix Street, west of the Tarleton College of Business Administration Building to add 70 spaces.
• Creating a new lot on the campus periphery at the corner of W. Jones Street and N. Neblett Avenue, providing 70 spaces by August and expanding another 30 spaces later. This lot, adjacent to the Bosque Crossing Apartment Complex and across from the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity House, will replace a small, aging apartment complex and residences.

The university continues to explore additional opportunities to obtain space for parking.
