Honeybees second, Yellow Jackets third at PK Relays

(March 18, 2017) — Hailey Martin and Jordan Carter won girls events and Krece Nowak won a boys event when Stephenville competed Saturday in the Possum Kingdom Relays at Graham.

Martin won the long jump and Carter the high jump for the Honeybees, who were second in the team standings with 101 points. Nowak championed the triple jump field for the Yellow Jackets, who were third in the boys standings with 86 points.

Martin, a junior, leaped 15 feet, 11.25 inches in the long jump and was third in the triple jump at 33-09.75. She also ran on two relays that scored for the Bees, leading the team with 21 points.

Kristen Pettit scored 16 points for third in both hurdle races – 16.43 in the 100 hurdles and 49.39 in the 300s – and her part in the same two relays. Kylee Ponder, who placed second in 12.65 seconds in the 100 and ran on both the placing relays, scored 13.

Nadine Arredondo scored 12, placing second in the shot put at 37-11.5 and fourth in the discus at 114-09. Carter scored 10 for winning the high jump at 5-04.

The Honeybee 4×200 team featured Pettit, Martin, Chloe Goodman and Ponder and finished second in 1:52.26. The 4×100 team of Amber Walker, Kali Bramlett, Martin and Ponder crossed the line in 51.82.

Payton Wall was second in the 300 meter hurdles in 48.89, Savannah Ivey was third in the 800 meter in 2:32.13, Bramlett was sixth in the 200 in 28.57 and Walker took sixth in the 400 in 1:06.88.

Vicki Dahl put a fourth-place finish behind Arredondo in the shot put with a heave of 34-09.

Nowak’s winning triple jump effort carried him 41-08, and the sophomore was also fourth in the long jump at 19-10. He was also sixth in the 100 in 11.43 seconds and ran on a pair of second-place relays to score a total of 23 points.

The Jackets’ 4×100 and 4×200 relays were each second, combining for 32 points. Nowak, Pacen Parker, Cole Pettit and Rett Dittfurth ran – in order – in both events, finishing the 4×100 in 44.21 and the 4×200 in 1:33.65.

Dittfurth was also fourth ahead of Nowak in the 100 in 11.31 seconds, giving him 12 points on the track. Lane Rust scored 14 for taking second in the 1,600 meter in 4:47.01 and third in the 800 in 2:07.56. Cassidy Smith was third in the 300 hurdles in 43.12.

The Yellow Jacket 4×400 meter relay was also third for 12 points. Runners were Cassidy Smith, Mason Holstein, Holden Haile and Cole Pettit, who ran on all three relays to score 11 points.

Gage Graham was fifth in the triple jump at 40-01, and Ragan Wood sixth in the shot put at 40-02.5.

The Yellow Jackets and Honeybees return to action next Friday at the Marshall Young Invitational in Cleburne. The Optimist Relays in Stephenville are set for Saturday, April 1, and represent the final chance to tune up before the 8-4A district meet on Monday, April 10, and Tuesday, April 11.
