(April 2, 2017) — Dubliner Gabe Leatherwood, 29, competed in his first ultra marathon – Hell’s Hills – just one year ago.
He returned for the 17th annual event in Smithville Saturday, and in his second appearance finished second place in the 50-mile competition that he completed in 8 hours, 3 minutes and 51 seconds. There were hundreds of competitors in the event, which included 50 mile and 50 kilometer races. An ultra-marathon is defined any footrace longer than the traditional 26.2-mile marathon.
Leatherwood didn’t attend the event alone. His wife, Megan, was third in the 25-kilometer female division.
