Stephenville (April 4, 2017) — Stephenville was still on pace to reach regionals just past the turn of the second and final round in the 8-4A district golf tournament at Squaw Valley Golf Club about noon Tuesday.

Head coach Alan Thorpe believed the Yellow Jackets had stretched their lead over third place to 13 strokes 8-9 holes remaining in the final round after finishing the first 18 holes on Monday with an eight-point lead over third. Midlothian Heritage A was maintaining its strong lead at the top of the standings at the turn Tuesday. The race for second is also the race for the final berth in the Region I-4A tournament.

The Jackets have reached the regional tournament in all of their previous eight years since Thorpe returned to Stephenville.

Kendall Roberts led the boys medalist standings with a 75 in round one and was four over on the front nine Tuesday. Bunker Funderburgh put his tee shot about five feet past the cup before putting in for birdie on a back-9 par 3.

A girls scoring summary was not immediately available, but assistant coach Patti Williams reported that Morgan Kinsey birdied holes 18 and 1 back-to-back. Madi Grimes made a great part save at 18, hitting a tree on her second shot, before pitching within 15 feet of the pin and sinking the ensuing putt.

The Honeybees were also second entering the final round.

Full scores and a complete report will follow the round.
