(April 7, 2017) — Easton Jones pitched six strong innings and Stephenville played error free defense to win its third straight 8-4A district baseball contest, 5-1 over Venus Friday at James T. Young Field.
Jones allowed just a run on four hits while striking out nine. The only run he allowed came when he hit four batters in the third, helping Venus load the bases then score its only run to trim its margin at that point to 2-1. Stephenville scored twice more in the bottom of the third and once in the fourth to pull away.
The Yellow Jackets won with only three hits because Venus committed three errors. Cody Storrs, Caleb Gibbons and Clay Krause had the hits for the Jackets, and each had an RBI. Derek Gifford scored twice.
Stephenville visits Midlothian Heritage at at 7:30 p.m. next Thursday.
