BLUFF DALE (April 8, 2017) – On Saturday, June McDonald and Mack McCormick were joined together in marriage at the Bluff Dale Baptist Church by Pastor Scott Pace.

This “young” couple met while both were living at the Oakwood Assisted Living facility in Stephenville.  Mack will turn 90 years old in July and June is 84.

The Flash got word of this wedding when Rhonda Baxter contacted us about it and she was so excited.  Baxter has worked in the retirement/nursing home community for a number of years and this is the first time she knew of two of the residents getting married after meeting each other in the retirement/nursing home. Baxter serves as Oakwood Assisted Living’s Resident Program Coordinator.  She keeps the many residents with various activities and crafts.
Mack was born in Dallas on July 18, 1927.  He would later graduate high school at Stephenville High School along with the class of 1943.  June McDonald (McCormick) was born in Erath County on October 31, 1933.  She graduated high school as part of the Dublin High School Class of 1950.  Mack recalls having to walk 3 miles to school and June recalls having to walk a mile to catch a bus to get to school.
Mack has two sons and a daughter, and June has one daughter.  They were all present at the wedding and the reception.  Mack moved into Oakwood Assisted Living in December of 2016 and June moved there in November of 2016 so that have not known each other for very long.  But, Mack says “God put us together.”  Mack and June were recently voted as the “Hunk” and the “Sweetheart” at the recent Annual Valentine’s Day Party at Oakwood.
During her working career, June worked 12 years for H&R Block and also worked as a secretary at her church for 22 years.  Mack is retired from the United States Postal Service after working a long career with them in Dallas and San Diego, California and he later retired from the Postal Service in Garland.
Mack moved back to this area in 1985 when he moved to Bluff Dale.  He would go on to serve on the Bluff Dale Volunteer Fire Department until 2002.  Although, he continued as the Department’s Secretary until January of this year.  He said when he started working in Bluff Dale as a volunteer firefighter, that the Department was basically a Lean-to Building with only one fire truck.  He says he has been able to see that grow to a department that now has 8 bays containing 6 new modern trucks.
When asked what he is going to do now that he is married, Mack said, “I am going to take it easy for the next 50 years.”
Congratulations to this wonderful couple!
