Bees continue to run over 8-4A district opponents

(April 14, 2017) — Jessica Howell belted a home run and joined Madison Gilder, Julia Flores  and Kristen Pettit.with three hits in a 15-1 Stephenville win at Midlothian Heritage Thursday evening.

The Honeybees secured at least a share of the 8-4A district title that they appear likely to win outright. Ranked fifth in the state by the Texas Girls Coaches Association, the Bees have outscored league opponents 142-13.

All three of Flores’ hits were doubles and she drove in four runs. Howell had the home run, a double and a single and drove in three. Gilder had three singles and an RBI. Kristen Pettit has been used primarily as a courtesy runner this year with limited action in the outfield, but the junior stepped up as a slapper in the designated hitter role, going 3-for-5 and pushing three runs across the plate.

It t took a while for Stephenville to get going on the road. After a grabbing a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, they did not score again until the fifth. Midlothian had answered its early deficit with a run in the bottom of the second, but when the Bees did score they did it in droves – six runs in the fourth, three in the sixth and five in the seventh.

The Bees racked up 18 hits to just two by Heritage against Flores, who went the distance on 95 pitches with nine strikeouts. committed four errors and Stephenville none.
