Wild takes individual lead as TexAnns inch forward to fourth

WICHITA FALLS (May 9, 2017) – Tarleton improved its score by 16 strokes in the second round and moved into a tie for fourth place at the NCAA West Super Regional on Tuesday at the Wichita Falls Country Club.

The TexAnns shot a 296 (+8) and have a two-day score of 608 (+32). All five players had better scorecards than they did in the first round. West Texas A&M leads the tournament for the second straight round, carding a 591 (+15). The top three teams advance to the NCAA Championships and the TexAnns are six strokes out of the third spot, trailing Dallas Baptist (602, +26).

Casey Wild shot one-under par 71 on the day and now sits atop the individual leaderboard at 145 (+1). Wild has rounds of 74 and 71 and leads the field by two strokes. The Lone Star Conference Player of the Year was -3 through the first five holes and went 2-under on the front nine. Wild finished the round strong with birdies on 16 and 17. For the round, Wild carded five birdies and nine pars. Wild now has seven birdies through two rounds, which is second most in the tournament.

Sarah Gee improved her scorecard by two strokes to shoot a 75 (+3) on the day and is tied for 17th at 152 (+8). Gee had a strong finish to her round as the junior was able to birdie three of the final five holes to shoot even par on the back nine. Overall, the first-team All-LSC winner has five birdies and 21 pars.

Beatriz Prados climbed 16 spots on the individual leaderboard after she shot five-strokes better than round one, carding a 76 (+4) this afternoon. Prados has a score of 157 (+13) overall and is tied for 35th.  The first-team All-LSC selection has three birdies and 21 pars through two rounds.

Casey Leatherman had the biggest jump of the day for the TexAnns, moving up 21 spots and improving her score by 10 strokes. Leatherman shot an 84 in the first round and came out with a 744 (+2) on the day to total 158 (+14) and is tied for 39th. Leatherman shot even par on the back nine, including a birdie on 18 to close out the round. Leatherman has a pair of birdies and 21 pars heading to the final round.

Kerbey Kipp shot a 79 (+7) on the day and has a 159 (+15) overall. Kipp had three birdies through the first six holes. Kipp also had six pars in the round, including one on 18 to close out her round. Kipp has four birdies and 15 pars in the tournament.

Tarleton will look to advance to the NCAA Championship for the 11th straight season with the final round starting on Wednesday, May 10 at 8:30 a.m.
