ERATH COUNTY (June 8, 2017) – Backpack Buddies of Erath County and the Leadership Stephenville Class of 2017 would like to hug and high five the citizens of Erath County for their enthusiastic support of the Burgers for Backpack Buddies event this spring.
Backpack Buddies is an all-volunteer, non-profit group delivering packages of child-friendly weekend food to all seven public ISDs in Erath County, in an effort to eliminate weekend hunger among our most vulnerable schoolchildren. This spring, 270 Erath County children received weekend food from Backpack Buddies.
Thanks to the team effort of food sponsors, peg pledgers, financial donors, and burger patrons, over $36,500 was raised through Burgers for Backpack Buddies. And thanks to partnerships with Erath County United Way and Stephenville Evening Lions Club, this incredibly generous community has ensured that weekend food will be available for our schoolchildren throughout the 2017-18 school year!
Interested in making a difference for a local child in a highly impactful, energized mission? Volunteers are welcome and needed, with a variety of opportunities including: food truck unloading/package sorting; delivery from the Stephenville pantry to local schools; correspondence; community engagement; event planning and hamburger flipping; etc.
The public is invited to come hear more about Backpack Buddies at the next meeting on Thursday, June 22nd at 11:30 am in the Executive Board Room at the Stephenville ISD Admin office, 2655 W. Overhill. Or for more info, contact Sena at (512) 966-7788 or Shelby at (254) 592-4909.
