(June 23, 2017) — Luke Brown had come come close, but the Stephenville header who was heeling in his first Bob Feist Invitational appearance, had never won the event known to many as the most prestigious six-round team-roping competition on the planet.
That changed in Reno, Nevada at the 40th annual Bob Feist Invitational, when Brown, of Stephenville, and heeling partner Jake Long of Morgan Mill roped six head in 44.70 seconds to win the aggregate by more than a second-and-a-half. They split $120,000 right down the middle for finishing atop a leaderboard dotted with other athletes from the area surrounding the Cowboy Capital of the World. Chase Wiley and Stehpenville heeler Martin Lucero were seventh in 52.41 seconds, splitting $14,000. Brandon Beers and Stephenville heeler Jim Ross Cooper finished 13th after roping five head in 43.29 to split $7,000.
Brown is first in heading and Long third in heeling in the current PRCA world standings, which were not affected by the independent BFI. They each finished third in the world in 2016.
