STEPHENVILLE (July 3, 2017) — The Tarleton State University College of Science and Technology is taking center stage at the upcoming STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Camp, hosted by the Crowley Public Library July 10-14.

A total of 10 Tarleton faculty members, graduate students and alumni are scheduled to present at the camp.

Camp organizer Jason Jacks, program coordinator and student recruiter in Tarleton’s College of Science and Technology, reports that, among other projects, campers will build model and water bottle rockets for launch on the camp’s final day.

“Our goal is to have a ‘wow’ factor in each of our emphasized science disciplines,” says Jacks.  “Regardless of the camper’s age, the presentations selected by the faculty were chosen because of their direct impact on one or more of the senses. The excitement of the ‘three-two-one’ countdown as the group’s model rocket motor suddenly squeezes out its orange and yellow fire and lifts off the launch pad leaves jaws in the fold-down position followed by a salute to the sun.”

Tarleton faculty members participating in the camp are:
• Dr. Billy Gray, associate professor and department head for engineering technology;
• Dr. Mircea Agapie, associate professor for computer science;
• Steven Merwin, instructor for mathematics and lead faculty mentor for the Tarleton aeronautical team; and
• Dr. Ryan Morgan, assistant professor for geosciences;
• Callie Price-Sweat , biology instructor;
• Catherine Ronck, assistant professor for geosciences;
• Richard Willey, assistant professor for engineering technology;
• Austin Kaulfus, graduate student and teaching assistant for biology.

Tarleton alumni Manny Lopez and Dori Tucker, both representing CG Laboratories in Granbury, and Andrew Kolemba from Lockheed Martin also are slated to participate.

The camp, at the Crowley Recreation Center, 405 S.Oak Street, is for students from ages 8 to 12. Cost is $70 for the week. Registration is limited. For more information, contact the Crowley Public Library at (817) 297-6707 or email sisaacs@ci.crowley.tx.us.
