STEPHENVILLE (August 17, 2017) — Tarleton State University continues to create a safer, pedestrian friendly campus with new parking lots and transportation services ready for the fall semester.

“New commuter and residential lots, along with the return of shuttle bus services, will improve campus mobility, make efficient use of available university property and allow construction of the new engineering building,” said Shelly Conboy-Brown, director of Tarleton’s Parking and Transportation Services. “Our focus is to create and maintain a campus that’s easily accessible, environmentally friendly and aesthetically pleasing.”

Six new lots with provide 650 additional parking spaces for commuter and residential students.

Commuter students will find new lots at the corner Neblett and Jones streets, the corner of West Washington and St. Felix streets, and off Rome Street between Campus Recreation and the intramural field.

Three new gravel lots in the neighborhood on Sloan and Tarleton streets will provide 140 more spaces for commuter and residential students, and a new lot near the Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex on South Harbin Drive will add another 185.

Thanks to a partnership with City and Rural Rides (CARR), students parking in the lot near the baseball complex—P34—can catch a Tarleton-wrapped shuttle bus during peak class hours Monday through Thursday. Buses also will run from First Baptist Church Paradigm, 555 W. Washington St., and the overflow gravel lot at Timber Ridge Church, 510 E. FM 8.

Shuttle hours are 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday and 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. Look for detailed schedules and routes soon at parking@tarleton.edu.

“Bleed purple and ride green is our manifesto,” Conboy-Brown said. “Shuttling, carpooling and bike-sharing will increase access within the greater Stephenville community and reduce traffic congestion around campus.”

As in the past, commuters may park in Green or Purple Zone lots, all residential students must use Red Zone or open Green Zone facilities, faculty and staff are assigned to Blue Zone spaces, and Yellow Zones are visitor parking.

The following lots have been rezoned:

• Part of P9, corner of McIlhaney Street, Purple-commuter
• P17, in front of the Kinesiology Building/Wisdom Gym, Purple-commuter
• P20, north of Memorial Stadium, Purple-commuter
• P44, corner of Jones and Cain streets, Yellow-visitor
• P36, behind Heritage Hall, completely Red-residential.
