STEPHENVILLE  (August 22, 2017) — Brewer came in as the 5A, but it was 4A Stephenville that had its opponent overmatched Tuesday evening in a 25-13, 25-19, 25-15 sweep at Gandy Gym.

HOW SO DOMINANT: Jayci Morton was zoned in from the start and hit .570 from the middle, where the junior continues to shine after converting from left side. She and classmate Chloe Goodman each had nine kills and performed well all around with Morton also digging four balls and acing a serve while Goodman made three digs and two blocks.

MORE THAN JUST TWO: The role-playing hitters were also strong, giving Stephenville four with at least six kills, and that was in just three sets. Salete Rios hit .350 while landing eight kils and Ashton Garner killed six balls and was especially strong down the stretch in the third set. Stehpenville hit .350 as a team.

COACH SPEAK: “We executed really well tonight. I know they are down some, but our girls were  really focused and played our best match of the year I thought. Jayci, wow, she’s hitting the 31 (first number refers to an area of the court which they break into sections with each getting a number; second number is height of set, so 31 is off a short set with Morton aiming for sector 3) better than anyone I’ve ever coached.

PASSING AND DIGGING: Hannh Huckabee and Gabie Lucero continue to split time in half at setter, and on Tuesday, the production was split right in half, too, with each collecting 16 assists. Hailey Martin and Kristen Pettit, strong seniors along the back row, racked up 11 digs and seven, respectively in the short match.

UP NEXT: Is there a school smaller than Stephenvilel in Leander’s Voleypalooz tournament. Not in their pool atleast as the Honeybees face San Antonio Clark, A&M Consolidated and Georgetown Eastview at 11 a.m, 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Thursday.
