STEPHENVILLE (October 4, 2017) — Midltohian Heritage an McKinney Christian managed to edge out Stephenville for the first two spots ahead of the third-place Yellow Jackets at the Thrill of the Hill Invitational cross country meet Wednesday at Stephenville City Park, where the home team very likely would have captured the team title if Christian Brown had been available to run.

Without Brown, the No. 1 runner at each meet to this point of the season but out of the lineup Wednesday due to an illness, Lane Rust still gave the Jackets a top 10 runner. Rust was sixth in the 5-kilometer race crisscrossing Stephenville City Park along the Bosque River, navigating around softball fields and through the disc golf course.

Rust finished in 18 minutes, 26 seconds, just more than a minute behind Riley Pyle, the event winner in 17:23.12.

Pyle was followed in the top five by Brice Hardin of Peaster in 17:39.46, Itzamma Torres of Eastland in 17:53.62, Ethen Agreda of first-place Midlothian Heritage in 18:08.23 and Brandon Hutto of Godley in 18:08.44.

Behind Rust in the top 10, seventh was Tyler Walker of Heritage, eighth and ninth were Tristan Gilbert and Ryland Holt of Whitney and 10th was Geronimo Lopez of Peaster.

Then the depth of the stronger programs from bigger schools kicked in with Heritage claiming 11th to become the first school with three across, De Leon independent Iasaiah Sparger taking 12th in 18:50.97, McKinney Christian getting its second man home in 13th and Gilberton Garcia locking down the No. 2 spot for Stephenville in 14th overall with a time of 18:56.47

Stephenville also took 18th and 19th with Angel Luna crossing the line in 19:14.18 and Daniel Osornio in 19:17.46. By that time Brown is most always walking it off and waiting to begin cool down mode with his teammates. Without him, Heritage and McKinney Christian each rushed three more runners home before Sean Gooding finished 35th in 19:47 complete the scoring for the Jackets.

Jesus Medrano was 39th in 19:54.84 for Stephenville, which was officially off the course when AJ Brown crossed the line 50th in 20:20.33.

There were two running as independents from Stephenville as Gustavo Vazquez was 88th in 23:06.24 and Miguel Carrillo 99th in 23:07.80.
