STEPHENVILLE (October 27, 2017) — Stephenville had one job to do, and as hard as it was to do the opposite, the Yellow Jackets took care of business, as we surmise here in our First Financial Bank First Flash.

First thought following the games! Each Friday and Saturday this football season, brought to you by FIRST FINANCIAL BANK.

STEPHENVILLE 71, BIG SPRING 0
The Yellow Jackets avoided looking ahead, that was about the only key tonight. They came out focused and scored nine touchdowns while suffocating the Steer offense and putting two more points on the board with a safety while handing Big Spring its 24th consecutive loss. Ultimately, a missed extra point kick following the final score in the fourth quarter prevented the Yellow Jackets from setting their school scoring record. They still matched it at 71.

The district championship bout with Abilene Wylie is hard not to look ahead to, but if the Yellow Jackets can avoid doing so one more week, they should also take care of Snyder. Then, and only then, should the players turn their heads to Wylie, because then, and only then, will be their opportunity to fight for the 3-4A Division I district title.

Tolar 30, Dublin 28

Heartbreaking. It appeared the Lions had come back to force overtime. But a high snap on a punt attempt resulted in a safety with only 30 seconds left, breaking a tie and forcing the Lions to kick the ball back to the Rattlers so they could run out the clock.

But the real reason Dublin didn’t prevail? The Lions recovered just one of the seven Rattler fumbles they caused.

For Dublin, it’s all about next week. The winner of Dublin-Coleman having the head-to-head advantage over the other negates the meaning of either’s result with Bangs (Dublin faces Bangs the following week) and sends that squad on as the fourth qualifier from District 4-3A Division II.

De Leon  70, Valley Mills 0
Could we just copy the Stephenville First Financial Bank First Flash analysis and paste it here? De Leon was never going to lose this game.

Kevin Yeager was 11-12 passing for 330 yards and six touchdowns while rushing for another score.

Hico 34, San Saba 7
Hico knew what time it was – playoff berth earning time. And that’s exactly where the Tigers will be thanks to wins over Hamilton, San Saba and Valley Mills. Now they can look ahead to their big games to end the season, as playoff seeding implications will abound in games against Goldthwaite and Crawford.

Lingleville 60, Gordon 24
The Cardinals are soaring, while Gordon appears to be a case of “How the Mighty Have Fallen.” None the less, Lingleville will be packing for the playoffs.
