(January 23, 1943 – November 19, 2017)

Woodrow “Woody” Marshall Metts, 74, passed away on Sunday November 19, 2017 at his home after a yearlong battle with cancer surrounded by loved ones.    Two celebrations of this special man’s life will be held on Saturday December 2, 2017; one in Stephenville at Lacy Funeral Home at 10:00 am and another in Abilene at Hamil Family Funeral Home at 2:00 pm.

Woody was born January 23, 1943 to Harvey and Roseleen Metts in Coleman, Texas and enjoyed his childhood with his two brothers, Stanley and Harlan.  Shortly after graduating from Coleman High School, Dede was born, and the family packed up and moved to Abilene where Woody began a long and illustrious career in auto body.   Three sons followed; Cary, Cory and Casey.   During his many years in auto body, Woody formed many long and lasting friendships with the young men who worked for him and benefited from his vast knowledge of cars.    The list of these men is long, but they know who they are.  He loved each of you and our hope is you continue his legacy.  Casey has followed in his Dad’s footsteps in his career as well.

Woody was also an awesome PaPaw to his grandkids.  He was patient, kind, and loving.    Left to cherish their memory of him and make him proud are Rebecca, Linsey, Marshall, and Caiti, along with a host of other kids that called him Papaw as well.   Also left behind to miss him is his faithful and so sweet border collie “Duke”.

Woody is also survived by his daughter Dede and “favorite son in law” Brent, son Cory and Miriam, and son Casey and Amber, along with his brothers Stanley and Harlan and their families.  He is also survived by the Mother of his children, Bettie.

Woody married Carolyn Boyd in 2017 and is survived by her and her children; Teresa and Earl Ratliff, Patty and Randy Clemmer, David and Julie Carr, along with 7 step grandkids and 2 step great grandkids, all which had grown very fond of PaPaw as well.   Carolyn and Dad had several years of fun traveling and dancing.  We appreciate the love she showed him, especially during his illness.  Carolyn did an awesome job taking care of Dad and we will be forever grateful to her.

Woody was preceded in death by his parents, his son Cary, and a granddaughter Meagan.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society.    The family would like to express their gratitude to Solaris Hospice with a special thanks to his “Angel Nurse” Chelsea.
