Eva Lavonne Leatherman, 86, of Stephenville went to be with her Lord peacefully on Saturday, December 9, 2017 in Stephenville.

Eva was born on November 27, 1931 in Gorman, Texas to the late Arthur Roy and Esther Leora Cooper Tarpley. She was one of 14 children born in the middle of all her other brothers and sisters in the Tarpley family. She married Elmer Eugene Leatherman on January 19, 1949 in Tolar. Texas. The two were married for 66 years until Elmer’s passing on July 16, 2015. Eva was a member of the Valley Grove Baptist Church, a long time resident of Erath County, and was a homemaker. She loved playing the piano, painting, wooden crafts, sewing and photography. She was a loving daughter, sister, mother, granny, and great granny.

Eva is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Thornell of Arlington, and Sharon and husband Jerry McCarty of Garner; grandchildren, John Mark and wife Wendy Thornell, Krissa and husband Chris Brewer, Lisa and husband Dallas Mayfield, Nikki McCarty, and Brandon Thornell; eleven great grandchildren, Alex, Austin, and Jake Ringo, Abby, Jake, and Lily Thornell, Paige and Ethan Mayfield, and Weston, Lauren, and Lilly Brewer; brothers, Bob Tarpley, Fred Tarpley, and David Tarpley; sisters, Francis Fussell, and Betty Pitts; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Eva was also preceded in death by brothers, Walter Carol Tarpley, Roy Tarpley, Henry Tarpley, Kenneth Tarpley, and Melvin Tarpley; sisters, Anna Mae Wylie, Carolyn Steward, and Belle White.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 16th, at Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at West End Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, at Stephenville Funeral Home.

Service Information

The family will receive visitors from 6 – 8 p.m. on Friday, December 15, at the Stephenville Funeral Home, located at 120 W. South Loop in Stephenville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 16, in the Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the West End Cemetery in Stephenville.
