(January 20, 2018) — McKinley Bostad poured in 17 points while Katie Webster and Mackenzie Hailey each just missed double-doubles in leading Tarleton State to its third striaght Lone Star Conference road win, 58-45 at UT-Permian Basin Saturday afternoon.

Hailey fouled out late in the contest, but not until she scored 14 points and collected eight rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots at the Falcon Dome in Odessa, where Webster also scored 14 and grabbed nine boards. Bostad’s line incuded three rebounds, three assists and a block. Tarleton won for the eighth time in nine games.

The TexAnns played their last four on the road, falling to LSC leader Texas A&M-Commerce before winning at Texas Woman’s, No. 8 West Texas A&M and UTPB. They are home for two next week, as Cameron (Okla.) and Midwestern State visit Wisdom Gym on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.

It wasn’t until the fourth quarter that Tarleton separated much from the Falcons, who trailed just 37-33 after three periods. It’s the second straight outing in which UTPB has hung close against one of the upper-tier LSC teams after making it to overtime and ultimately losing to A&M-Commerce Thursday.

The TexAnns outscored UTPB 21-11 in the fourth, which began with a Hailey jumper, and on separate possessions a layup and a free throw by Webster, five straight points giving Tarleton a 42-34 lead. Webster continued to shine, scoring five straight including an old-fashion 3-point play to make it 49-38.

UTPB climbed within eight before three free throws by Bostad, two by Hailey then two more from Bostad, making it 58-45 before a scoreless final 1:07. The TexAnns were 13-17 from the stripe after going 16-20 in their 66-64 upset of WTAMU.

Khali Pippens-Tryon led UTPB with 17 points. She was the only Lady Falcon to reach double figures.

Tarleton won despite committing 25 turnovers, including 14 in the first half, which ended with the TexAnns clinging to a 23-22 edge. Poor outside shooting also slowed the TexAnns, who were just 3-17 from 3. Bostad was 2-4 and the rest of the team just 1-13. Tarleton still managed to shoot 41 percent for the game, immensely better than UTPB at 26 percent. They were just 4-23 from beyond the arc, but did go 13-16 from the line.
