Nancy “Nan” Jean Cloud Gough, 76, passed away in her home in St. Matthews, SC, on Sunday, February 4, 2018, after a long battle with breast cancer. Nan was born in Comanche, Texas, on February 11, 1941, to Louise Finley Barnard and Robert Henry Cloud. She was the granddaughter of Steve and Lottie Finley.
Nan graduated from Comanche High School in 1959. She married Carl Merl Gough, Sr., of Muleshoe, Texas on February 3, 1966. They had two children, Donna Lu Gough and Allen Madison Gough. Nan served as the President of the Parent-Teachers Association and as Director of the Continuing Education Program for the Hearne Independent School District in Hearne, TX. She spent many years as an Office Manager for Dr. H. David Pope at his General Medical Practice in Bryan, TX. Nan was a House Director for the Alpha Delta Pi and Gamma Delta Sororities at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX. Later, she was an Office Manager and Receptionist for veterinarian, Dr. Tim Eaker, in Ada, Oklahoma. Nan always said that she loved working for Dr. Pope and Dr. Eaker but that she couldn’t help liking Dr. Eaker’s patients a bit more. She loved Dachshunds and owned seven throughout her lifetime. She loved to read, often having several books going at once, and liked to bowl.
Nan was Methodist but a secret Bapti-costal, as she always joked. She spent years supporting the March of Dimes and St. Jude Children’s Hospital as well as other charitable organizations.
Nan is survived by her daughter, Dr. Donna Gough of St. Matthews, SC, a daughter-in-law, Julie Gough of Round Rock, TX, two grandchildren, Katie and Chris, a sister and brother-in-law, Jaynie and Dane Partin of Gorman, TX, and several nieces and nephews.
Nan was predeceased by her son, Allen Gough, of Round Rock, TX, a sister, Jeri Ann Cloud, of Comanche, TX, a brother, Danny Lynn Cloud, of Comanche, TX, her mother, Louise Finley Barnard, her stepfather, Louis Barnard, and her grandparents, Steve and Lottie Finley.
