STEPHENVILLE (February 22, 2018) — Tarleton State took the lead for good by scoring seven of nine points to end the first half, then blew it open with 18 of 22 to begin the second half in a 65-49 win over UT-Permian Basin Thursday evening at Wisdom Gym.

The TexAnns made this the winningest of six seasons under head coach Misty Wilson, previously an assistant coach and player at Tarleton. Mackenzie Hailey scored 15 points and collected 11 rebounds, her 22nd career double-double. The sophomore from Burleson is just the seventh TexAnn to reach 20 in a career.

Hailey paved the way to a 32-12 scoring advantage in the paint. She hit two free throws to begin the mini-run to end the first half, and also had a bucket underneath for four of the seven points.

Katie Webster seemed to always find an open spot near the basket and either score inside or go to the stripe. She was 5-7 from the floor and 7-10 from the line for 17 points while also leading the team with four assists.

It was 19-19 before Hailey led Tarleton to a 26-21 lead at intermission. It could have been 30-21, but Tarleton did not convert on two fast break opportunities in the final minute of the half.

It didn’t matter with the big run coming to start the second half, and it really didn’t after dagger 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions, the first by Tiara Tatum and the second by McKinley Bostad, who otherwise was relatively quiet with six points and three assists. Collins overcame seven turnovers with eight points and four steals, while Tatum netted seven.

Tarleton managed to hold a 13-12 lead after the first despite going 3-13 from the floor with eight turnovers. UTPB was 6-16 shooting but didn’t have an attempt from the stripe, where the TexAnns were 6-9. They went 16-22 from the stripe on the night.
