Tarleton maintains NIRA Southwest Region standings after weekend outing


STEPHENVILLE (February 26, 2018) — Tarleton rodeo teams held on to their standings in the Southwest Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association with stellar performances at the Odessa College Rodeo last weekend.

The men’s team, currently leading the regional standings, took fifth place in Odessa, led by bareback rider Linden Woods, who tied for first place with a score of 155 on two head. Woods’ 79 was tops in the long go. Tyler Berghuis’ 151 on two head was good for third in the event. Others to make the finals in Odessa were Ryley Fontenot and Wyatt Williams, who took fifth and sixth respectively in calf roping.

Tarleton holds a 140-point lead over Western Texas College in the men’s regional standings, 597.50 to 457.50.

Regional leader in goat tying, Tarleton’s Baili Collins posted a two-run 15.2-second time, good for fourth place over the weekend, leading the Tarleton women to a sixth-place finish and allowing the team to maintain its hold on second place in the region.

Team roping sisters Makayla Boisjoli of Tarleton and Shelby Boisjoli or Ranger College, the only all-female team to compete in the finals, posted a 31.3 clocking on two head, good for fourth place.

Others earning spots in the women’s finals were breakaway ropers Allison Danley, who took fifth; Wiseman, a seventh-place finisher; and Abby Medlin, who took ninth. Lauren Bane took seventh in goat tying, followed by teammates Ashleigh Baugh and Kelsey Graf in eighth and 10th. Barrel racer Taryn Parsonage wound up seventh in her event.

Tarleton’s women trail Texas Tech by 75 points, 340-265, in the region.

Tarleton rodeo will compete at the Kacee Bradley Memorial Breakaway in Stephenville March 10, followed on March 11 by the Tarleton Rodeo Memorial Team Roping.

The teams’ next NIRA outing is the Ranger College Rodeo in Sweetwater March 22-24.
