STEPHENVILLE (February 26, 2018) — Stephenville had six players score 2 or more runs and four tally 2 or more hits.
Waxahachie Life had none of either in the District 8-4A opener for each team.
That was the story in the 15-0 Stephenville win over Life Monday when the Honeybees made a rare home appearance at Tarleton Softball Complex due to soggy conditions at McCleskey Field.
Julia Flores drove in two runs and did not allow so much as a hit. It won’t stand as an regulation no hitter for the senior because the 15-run mercy-rule was invoked in the middle of the second inning. She also did not issue a walk, and faced just 10 batters in three innings, with an error in the field responsible for the lone runner.
The top of the Stephenville lineup was dominant in a four-run first, then everyone got in on the fun when the Honeybees blew up for 11 runs in the second. In all there were 13 Honeybee hits and four Life errors.
Samantha Luna was 2-for-2 with a triple and walk. She drove in a run and crossed the plate all three times she reached. Jessica Ebeling was 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs, Madison Gilder 2-for-2 with 2 RBI and two runs, and Morgan DiCiccio 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs.
