CANYON – A pair of solo home runs for No. 9 West Texas A&M was all it took to down Tarleton in Friday night’s series opener at Schaeffer Park.
Tarleton’s Jordan Withrow came up short from the pitching circle despite tossing her fourth consecutive complete game and holding the Lady Buffs to a season-low two runs. The Tarleton sophomore struck out 10 batters and allowed just two runs on six hits and four walks while falling to 8-3 on the season.
Meanwhile, the Tarleton offense provided only one hit of support – a second-inning double down the right field line from Georgia Capell. Tarleton had its chances, however, beginning in that second inning but two strikeouts in the second doomed the Tarleton rally.
The TexAnns had only two base runners the rest of the way – a leadoff walk from Nyka Wood in the fourth and a two-out walk from Tanna Huie in the seventh.
Tarleton will return to action against the Lady Buffs in a 1 p.m. doubleheader in Canyon Saturday.
