(March 17, 2018) — Krece Nowak needed one more inch to win the long jump at the Possum Kingdom Relays in Graham Saturday, where he placed in three events and scored 11 of the 27 points collected by the Stephenville varsity boys.
The Yellow Jackets finished 11th of 18 schools in the 3A-4A-5A division that was dominated by Brownwood with 112 points. Second place Abilene Wylie scored 65 and third place Whitesboro netted 56.
Nowak leaped 20 feet 8-1/2 inches to take second in the long jump behind Mineral Wells standout Carlos Gray and his 20-9-1/4. Nowak, a junior, was also sixth in the 100 meter dash in 11.56 seconds and ran the opening leg of the fourth-place Yellow Jacket 4×400 meter relay.
Joining Nowak in the eight-point relay effort was Cole Pettit on the second leg followed by Calvin Darby and anchor man Jose Castillo.
Gage Graham used his best performance this season to place third in the triple jump. The junior covered a season-best 41-08 to place sixth.

Stephenville will compete on Thursdays the next two weeks, first at Glen rose in the Tiger Relays on March 22, then at home when the annual Optimist Relays return to Lem Brock Field on March 29. Both meets begin at 5 p.m., as will the District 8-4A meet at Heritage High School in Midlothian the following Wednesday and Thursday, April 4-5.
