The Tarleton men are led by three regional event champions, who combined for six appearances at the annual summer rodeo.
Saddle bronc rider Brody Cress, making his third trip to Casper; two-time CNFR qualifier tie-down roper Kyle Parrish; and bareback rider Linden Woods will represent Tarleton as event champions from the region.
Cress clinched his second consecutive Southwest Region title Saturday posting a two-head score of 156 in the Tarleton Stampede, accumulating 1,140 points for the season. Parrish flashed a two-calf 18.7-second time to win the weekend’s tie-down roping, giving him 505 season points. Linden’s 161.5 over the weekend featured two 80-point rides.
Reserve champion bareback rider Tyler Berghuis, who took fourth here; bull rider Brody Yeary, who finished third on the season; and reserve champion team-roping header Ky Bray, also join the list of Tarleton’s 2018 CNFR qualifiers.
With their seventh-place finish in the weekend Stampede, the Tarleton women’s team finished third in the Southwest rankings and out of team qualification for the CNFR by just 51 points.
However, two cowgirls from Tarleton notched spots in the CNFR field with stellar 2017-18 individual performances.
Baili Collins, who earned her fifth appearance in Casper and her second consecutive regional goat-tying title, and Rylee Dick, the top breakaway roper in the Southwest, will carry the banner for Tarleton.
The College National Finals Rodeo runs from June 8-16 in the Casper Events Center and includes the top two men’s and women’s teams in each of the NIRA’s 11 regions, as well as the season’s top three individual scorers in each event.
Tarleton teams have won seven national championship titles and 26 individual national championships. Today, Tarleton has one of the largest teams in the nation with 105 card-holding student members in 2017-2018.
