2018 Texan Football schedule, promotional weekends finalized

STEPHENVILLE – For the first time since 2010, Tarleton Football will debut on a Thursday night in front of Texan Nation to begin its 11-game season.

Originally scheduled to be played on the first Saturday in September, Tarleton and Delta State mutually agreed to open the season at 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 30 at Memorial Stadium in Stephenville to begin the season. The home opener will be a ‘Purple Out’ game, in conjunction with ‘Purple Thursday’ at Tarleton State University.

From there, Tarleton will spend the next two weekends on the road at NCAA Division I Stephen F. Austin and West Texas A&M before coming home on September 22 for Family Weekend against UT Permian Basin. That Family Weekend will also be the inaugural ‘Legends Game’ where Tarleton Athletics will recognize the members of the 2001 Texan Football team that led Tarleton into the NCAA playoffs for the first time in school history.

Following a road trip to Angelo State, Tarleton’s third home game will be a ‘Pink Out’ game on October 6 in Stephenville when the Texans play host to Eastern New Mexico. Fans are encouraged to join the student-athletes in wearing pink in support of cancer awareness.

Tarleton will travel to the home of the defending national champion Texas A&M-Commerce Lions on October 13 and then come back home on October 20 for the annual homecoming game against Texas A&M-Kingsville. Kickoff for homecoming will be at 6 p.m.

After the final road game of the regular season at Midwestern State, Tarleton will be home for the final two weekends of the season to host Lincoln (Mo.) in a non-conference game on November 3 at 7 p.m. and Western New Mexico in the season finale on Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. The game against Lincoln (Mo.) will be the annual Military Appreciation game while the finale will be Senior Day for the student-athletes, cheerleaders, Texan Stars, and the Sound and the Fury.
